Students often say Davis & Elkins College feels like home. That’s because the people they meet and the relationships they form are what make the college special.
When it came time for graduation last year, D&E wanted to keep its hallmark personal touch while still ensuring safety and well-being. However, that meant a large in-person ceremony couldn’t take place on campus.
Administrators got creative. The college called on its friends within the Presbyterian community and beyond to secure outdoor venues. The “D&E Journey Tour” took commencement to five states in September and awarded diplomas in 11 ceremonies.
“In May I made a pledge on behalf of Davis & Elkins College to the graduating class of 2020 that there would be a commencement ceremony,” said president Chris A. Wood. “I wanted to keep that promise to our graduates.”
