“Love still takes the risk of birth.” — Madeleine L’Engle
In the moment before the moment, the hush takes
all sound into itself, prepares space, allows love
to come quietly, to approach without risk
of revelation before our small and riskless
hearts alert, hide from his presence. He takes
in each scent, senses our fear. Ferocious, his love
will tame itself, reserve his unleashable love
until we are ready to stand in the open field, risk
his power biting into our world, this moment takes
us, takes what we call love, tears it apart, shows us what loves means to risk.
