Humans of GA: Hats edition

This is Stanley Kessler. He’s a teaching elder commissioner from the Presbytery of Wabash Valley in Indiana. He is wearing a Levine straw hat, “because you wear straw after Memorial Day!” Levine & Co hats are made right here in St. Louis.

Gregory Chan, a member of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board from Presbytery of San Francisco, said, “I have a Griffin hat, but I have been looking for a porkpie hat for years!” He found this one three weeks ago!

Tom Link is a ruling elder commissioner from Presbytery of San Joaquin in California. He has a reversible hat. He said, “I can be in your face with this hat, but when I’m no longer in your face, I can blend in with the crowd.”

Beatrix Weil, assembly assistant from New York, wore a blossom hat all week. She is an advisor to the YAADS. She wore the hat so the YAADS would be able to see her and know that she is there to support them. She likes it because she’s gotten a lot of comments about the hat.

Former co-moderator T. Denise Anderson’s hat from is from the Committee on Local Arrangements (COLA), from Maryland, where the 2020 General Assembly will be held. Being from Maryland, Anderson said,  “I want to encourage my presbytery to participate going forward.” She is photographed with her daughter.

Jhanderys Dotel-Vellenga, newly commissioned mission co-worker to Nicaragua brought only one hat because she couldn’t fit the rest in her luggage. She said: “If I had to choose one, I chose this one because it fits the most with my clothes. It matches my hair and it doesn’t distract from my outfit. In hat etiquette, if you can only pick one hat, you pick one that matches your hair.”

Two-year-old Harper Muska, daughter of Maxwell (a Presbyterian pastor observing GA) and Heather Muska, said: “My hat has an elephant on it. It’s pink. I like wearing it with my dress and backpack. I wear it at church because people.” While she was walking around the exhibit hall she received a lot of comments about her hat and outfit. One person commented that she is “Dora, the Presbyterian explorer.” She cannot be reached for further comment due to a commitment to watching Mr. Rogers.
